# Pressure Systems

*An algorithmic philosophy, written before the code.*

Weather is the oldest generative art. Nobody draws a cold front. A difference in pressure is
set up, and everything visible afterwards, the cloud, the curtain of rain, the line of frost
across a window, is that difference working itself out. Pressure Systems treats an image the
same way: the artist sets a gradient and steps back, and the picture is what the gradient did.

So each piece in this movement begins with a field and not a composition. Scalar pressure
and vector wind are declared first. Marks are not placed; they are released, and they obey.
A stroke of rain is a particle that fell. An isobar is the locus where a value holds still. A
frost dendrite is a rule about angle repeated until it runs out of cold. The hand-feel in the
result is not simulated, it is the honest residue of ten thousand small obediences, and it
should appear as a meticulously crafted system that was refined through countless iterations
by someone at the top of the field of computational drawing.

Seeds are climate, not decoration. Every seed is one reproducible afternoon that will never
vary, and the series is what happens when the same climate is allowed to have different days.
Parameters are kept physical on purpose: how dense, how turbulent, how heavy the ink. If a
control has no equivalent in weather it does not belong on the panel, and each one has been
tuned with painstaking care until the extremes stay beautiful rather than merely different.

Colour is meteorological. Paper is the sky's resting state and ink is whatever is falling
across it. A single accent is permitted because weather maps have always allowed themselves
one warm mark for the warm front, and that restraint is part of the master-level discipline
the work depends on. Everything else is density, the way a real storm is mostly just more
of the same grey arriving faster.

Scale reveals the method. At a distance these are moods. Close up, each one should fall
apart into individual lines, and each line should still be doing something legible. That
double reading, atmosphere from far away and an audit trail from close up, is what separates
a deeply considered algorithm from an effect. It is the product of deep computational
expertise and of patience in equal measure, and nothing in the frame is left unaccounted for.
