Objects for a Small Flat
Four things for two rooms: a stool, a desk that folds into a wall, a balanced lamp, and a pebble that tells you the weather.

The brief
Design a furniture piece, an industrial product and a futuristic consumer device.
The idea
In a small flat, every object has to earn its floor space. Each of these does one thing, and folds, balances or sits on a windowsill when it is not doing it. The Weather Stone is the futuristic one, and its whole interface is a single drawn line showing the next six hours.
Decisions
- Exposed joints: the stool's wedged tenons are its decoration.
- The desk is shut most of the time, so its closed state has to be beautiful.
- The lamp balances on a brass counterweight, so moving it is a small pleasure.
- The Weather Stone has one line and one dial, and no app.
How it came together
- Started from the size of a small room.
- Wrote each object as one job and one rest state.
- Drew the stool with real dimensions and joinery.
How it works
The stool drawing is drawn in code at real dimensions.
